Beaconhouse- Newlands Lahore (BNL) is now an authorized International Baccalaureate® (IB) World school for the Primary Years Programme (PYP). BNL successfully completed a 2 years candidacy journey which was full of learning and growth for both facilitators and learners.

At the heart of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) is the belief that best learning happens through collaboration. The programme encourages children to broaden their horizon through meaningful experiences that shape their understanding of themselves and the world around them. We at BNL believe that every learner is unique and special; therefore, education at BNL is learner-centred: teachers support students in their growth and development in all areas, keeping in mind individual ability, need and learning style.
Students’ learning in the classroom is supported by state of the art ICT resources such as multimedia, smart boards, iPad/ tablets and a colourful attractive environment. At BNL PYP learning is not confined to the classroom alone. The outdoors is explored for music, reading and art activities thus sharing not only the space but the joy of learning with others on campus. Within the school timetable, picnics and nature walks are organized at Beaconhouses’ farmhouse and Sports Complex.

As an IB World school we are committed to quality teaching and have ensured rigorous continuous professional development opportunities including IB certified training for all of our teachers to hone their pedagogical skills and strengthen their understanding of the PYP curriculum framework. This qualification equips our teachers to confidently support inquiry based teaching and learning inside and outside the classroom.
The PYP framework is based on five essential elements consisting of knowledge, concepts, skills, attitudes, and action, equipping learners to lead successful lives, both now and in the future.
The PYP curriculum framework incorporates local and global issues through the following six transdisciplinary themes. Learners are asked to reflect and make links between these enhancing their conceptual knowledge and understanding of the social and natural world.

  • Who We are
  • Where We Are In Place and Time
  • How We Express Ourselves
  • How the World Works
  • How We Organize Ourselves
  • Sharing the Planet

Assessment In The PYP

BNL establishes active partnership between the student, his/ her parents and teachers to create a continuum between learning at school and at home in order for our students to become more independent and responsible learners. Assessment is continuous throughout the unit. Assessment of student growth and progress in all areas of learning is shared with parents on a regular basis through three way conferences, newsletters and open days. Student portfolios reflect the range of experiences created to make our PYP learners develop the IB Learner Profile and the necessary knowledge, skills, concepts and attitudes that is enable students to take responsible action.

Language In The PYP

Language is the vehicle for all learning and drives inquiry in the PYP, connecting students’ prior experiences and current understanding in a purposeful and authentic learning experience. We at BNL believe that language learning lies at the heart of all learning and defines how we view ourselves and make sense of the world around us. Ideas, feelings, attitudes and identity are shaped by the language/s we use to express and communicate. A variety of authentic experiences both inside and outside the class throughout the school day provide opportunities to develop language skills that support cognitive development. Home languages are valued and respected and are seen as integral to not only maintaining cultural identity but also as a critical factor in academic success and acquisition of other languages.

Quality teaching, an enabling environment and a will to improve on our work are areas that are integral to the BN philosophy and will remain our focus for the coming years.

We are looking positively to creating exciting possibilities for learning, development and growth in the years ahead and are enthusiastic about continuing as members of a community of lifelong learners.
